Forgotten Foundation
In public space, infrastructure persists beyond its original purpose. In this Polish park, a solitary metal pole, remnant of a dismantled structure—demanded recognition. Rather than removal, the pole became anchor point for a suspended wooden sphere: leftover timber strips, layered and woven into an organic spherical form that hovers above winter snow and summer grass.
The wood’s dimensions suggested the layered spherical shape; the pole’s height determined the scale. What was neglected infrastructure becomes congregation point—the pole’s forgotten foundation now grounds a new vertical presence. The material speaks; we simply listened to what already existed, shifting function from structural remnant to spatial marker, from leftover to gathering place. It was demolished but was rebuilt and painted golden..it is probably gone by now ….
Images document the structure across seasons: winter activation with snow, daytime presence revealing the layered wood pattern, nighttime illumination transforming it into a luminous beacon, and construction process showing the material assembly method using reclaimed wood strips.
