Containosaurus
The Containosaurus stands as a vertical landmark across Lowlands’ flat terrain, four decommissioned 1-ton wind turbine blades stacked atop three shipping containers, creating an unmistakable orientation point within the festival landscape. The assembly requires substantial ballast: water-filled IBC tanks anchor the base, countering wind forces on the vertical structure.
Small solar panels integrated into the design allow phone charging, though notably not from the wind turbines themselves. The project demonstrates how decommissioned industrial components, turbine blades typically destined for landfill, can shift function from energy generation to spatial marker. The installation’s name references both its contained construction method and prehistoric scale, while the blades’ massive forms naturally command attention, their aerodynamic purpose retired in favor of pure presence.
The installation now resides at Verbeke Foundation in Belgium, where it fits neatly within the sculpture park’s collection of large-scale interventions.
