Pavillion Bench

Heeswijkplein: child-dense neighborhood with limited public space. Small apartments with balconies generate need for meeting places, sports and play. Workshop with residents identifies lack of social control and usable outdoor space.

Platform STAD assembled a project team: Remy Kroese (Dear Hunter), Eline Keus (OASE urbanism), Tobias Woldendorp (WoldendorpWildervank), Denis Oudendijk (Refunc). Refunc handled design and execution.

The modular seating system follows Hybrid Catalogue principle: fixed Ø42mm scaffolding structure combines with locally available materials. Circular configuration eliminates hierarchy. The furniture functions as bench, pavilion and fitness installation. Rejected ship rope ladder rungs (maritime safety standards guarantee weather-resistant hardwood) form seating elements. Amare construction fencing cut into triangles for roof construction. Three dismantled material streams converge in multiple function.

The installation relocated to Carweide, Binckhorst. Temporary park within The Hague’s urban transition district.
