Villa Maggiore 1193

Interior Intervention

Invited by Cesare Peeren from Superuse Studios, Refunc collaborated with four international teams transforming a lakeside villa’s interior. Designing three bedrooms from ceiling downwards using local leftovers, listening to the villa’s construction and harvested materials.

Salvaged signage, Melbourne, Tokyo, Paris, became the leitmotif. Wooden shutters proved the best materials, adapting to existing architecture. Melbourne’s main bed wanted to hang from ceiling structure. The square Tokyo room needed a Japanese bed with wardrobe from the villa’s used windows. Paris room needed a high bed for optimal Como Lake views.

Function-shifting through material dialogue—found signs and architectural salvage revealing spatial possibilities.
