Caldas da Rainha
In 2008, Refunc conducted a one-day material transformation workshop with students at Caldas da Rainha School of Arts and Design. Discarded plastic bins and crates were retrieved from the local waste facility and recontextualized through minimal intervention design exercises. Participants explored functional reinterpretation of these industrial objects, maintaining their recognizable material characteristics while enabling new applications. The workshop demonstrated Refunc’s core methodology: listening to existing forms and material properties to determine optimal functional transformation, rather than imposing predetermined design concepts onto salvaged materials.
