What has since become a mainstream product—the IBC tank with built-in light, was realized on this monumental scale at Lowlands festival, building on Refunc’s earlier experiments at Todaysart in The Hague. Two massive walls of illumination formed a dynamic corridor connecting both halves of the festival terrain, actively pulsing on and off through the deliberate misuse of TLC starters.
The IBC’s cubic steel cage and translucent plastic walls transformed the industrial container into a light module with minimal intervention, shifting from liquid containment to light diffusion while retaining complete material identity. The 200 tanks were harvested locally with support from regional farmers, who delivered them in a tractor convoy from the surrounding agricultural landscape.
